Italian Company Gets $619 Million Contract for West Qurna-2 Field Gas Project in Iraq

Iraq has given the Italian engineering and construction firm Sicim SPA a $619 million contract in a major effort to improve its energy infrastructure. The agreement, which the Iraqi cabinet announced on Tuesday, is centered on the construction of vital gas infrastructure in the southern West Qurna-2 oilfield.

Sicim SPA has been assigned the responsibility of renovating an already-existing gas processing plant and building new gas infrastructure throughout the 33-month agreement. This programme is a component of Iraq’s larger plan to enhance its capacity for processing gas.

Significant infrastructure upgrades are planned for the Russian energy behemoth Lukoil’s West Qurna-2 field with the goal of increasing processing capacity.
